Traffic division officers conduct “Operation Sun” – In keeping with priority #4 of the Commissioners 2012 policing plan, wish speaks to “Enforcing the Rules of the Road,” Officers of the Traffic Division launched an aggressive campaign dubbed “Operation Summer Sun”, targeting traffic violators on East Bay Street in the area of Montague.

This operation, which took place on Tuesday 28thth August 2012 between the hours of 11:20 am and 12:40 am on Wednesday 29th August 2012, resulted in the following:

  • Thirty-three (33) drivers were issued Fixed Penalty Notices in the amount of $100.00 each, for the offense of speeding, contrary to section 43 of chapter 220, the Road Traffic Act.
  • Ten (10) drivers were issued Traffic Citations in the amount of $100.00 each for the offense of Driving while not having their seat belts fasten, contrary to Section 42 (c)(1) of the Road Traffic Act Chapter 220.

Police are reminding members the public to adhere to the rules governing the usage of our roadways. Police also warned that officers of the Traffic Division and by extension the Royal Bahamas Police Force would take a zero tolerance approach in Enforcing the Rules of the Road.

Traffic division police urge caution as kids head back to school – With students heading backing to school, Police from the Traffic Division are urging both drivers and pedestrians to take precautions to keep the streets safe as more pedestrians are using the roadways.

Drivers should use caution especially while traveling in residential and school areas where pedestrians may cross the street or walk along the roadway.Pedestrians, especially children, may dart out into traffic from unexpected places like between parked cars.

Drivers should always be ready to take evasive action and monitor their speed.Police also urged parents to share these safety tips with children who walk to school.

  • Do not cross the street alone if you are younger than 10 years old. •    Stop at the curb before crossing the street.
  • Walk; do not run, across the street.
  • Cross at corners, using traffic signals, and crosswalks.•    Look left, right and left again before crossing. •    Walk facing traffic.
  • Make sure drivers see you before crossing in front of them.
  • Do not play in driveways, streets or parking lots. •    Wear white clothing or reflectors when walking at night.
  • Cross at least 10 feet in front of a school bus.

Mobile police officers make firearm arrest – Three males, two 25 years old and a 24 year old are custody after they were arrested by police for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Wednesday 29th August 2012.

According to police reports, shortly after at 6:00pm officers of the mobile unit were on routine mobile in the Goodman’s Bay area when they observed a green four-door Honda Accord car with three (3) male acting suspiciously.

The officers brought the vehicle to a stop and whilst conducting a search of the vehicle, uncovered a handgun with a quantity of ammunition.

The three (3) males were subsequently arrested and taken into police custody.Police investigations continue.

Police request public’s help in solving overnight, armed robberies – Police are requesting the public’s help in locating the person/s responsible for three (3) overnight, armed robberies.The first incident occurred around 8:30pm on Wednesday 29th August 2012.

According to police reports, the victim was walking along East West Highway, when two males armed with a handgun approached him and robbed him of cash and jewelry. The suspects then fled on foot.One of the male suspects was clad in white T-shirt and the other in red T- shirt. Both suspects wore long black pants.

The second incident occurred shortly after 12:00midnight on Thursday 30th August 2012.Police reports indicate, that the victim was at Wulff and Marathon Road when two men armed with a handgun approached him and robbed him off his 1999 red Honda Coupe vehicle, then sped off.

The third incident occurred shortly after 2:00am on Thursday 30th August 2012.

According to police reports, the victim was at a business establishment located off Toni Darling Highway, when he was approached by three (3) men, armed with a handgun, who robbed him of his grey 1995 Honda Civic vehicle and sped off.

Police seek public’s assistance in solving a stabbing incident – Police are requesting the public’s help in locating several suspects responsible for stabbing incident that occurred on Thursday 30th august 2012.

According to police reports, shortly after 3:00am the victim was attending a party at a premises located on Nassau Street, when he was approached by a group of men who stabbed him to the neck.

The victim was transported to hospital via private vehicle, where he is detained in critical condition.
