blockquote>Birbal was convicted on eight counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with two boys!
Nassau, Bahamas – Now that the FNM is back in power educator Andre Birbal who was jailed in the last administration has won his appeal in the Court of Appeal.
Readers would remember how the art teacher was first convicted in 2011 on eight counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with two boys and was jailed for a total of 35 years. He appealed the conviction and at a retrial in 2014 – when he faced charges against just one of the boys – he was again found guilty and jailed for 28 years.
He had fled the capital with the assistance of people in Education and was spotted in a Florida airport haulin-@@@ as he attempted to change his funds collected from the treasury while the criminal investigation was going on. We still wonder who aided his escape out of the country at the time.
In a ruling released yesterday, the Court of Appeal ordered Birbal to now stand trial for a third time to allow a new jury to decide his guilt or innocence as a number of technical arguments arose in his second trial.
Bahamas Press believes there should be justice for the children, where one on Grand Bahama from the same school Birbal taught committed suicide following these revelations.
