Over 10,000 PLP workers marched with Christie, Davis and Roberts at the Labour Day Parade up East Street this morning.

Press Statement

While Heart Surgeon Dr. Duane Sands see absolutely nothing wrong with the Bahamas Mortgage Corporation evicting a Bahamian Mother and Six Children from their home and throwing them out on the streets adding to the numbers of homeless persons, the PLP is obliged to demand Senator Sands and Minister Hubert Minnis to explain to the Bahamian Public the rationale for the expenditure of $50,000 for the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the Critical Care Block at Princess Margaret Hospital.

This level of lavish spending including chandelier at a time when there are credible reports that Princess Margaret Hospital is experiencing shortages of basic medicines and at a time when there are numerous long standing deficiencies at the Hospital which are well known to the Government and the Bahamian Public.

As a further example, this past weekend the sterilization system at PMH went on the blink in all likelihood due to a lack of maintenance forcing equipment to be sent to Doctor Hospital.

The health, well-being and security of all Bahamians must always come first and any and all elaborate and unnecessary expenditures will not be entertained by the next PLP Government. Dr. Duane Sands must restore this homeless family in their home and assist the Family in finding jobs to allow them to make mortgage payments. A Heart Surgeon without a Heart is not a stigma Dr. Sands would wish to be labeled with.
