The signs of serious, tough economic times are now afoot in The Bahamas. Gas prices have now hit an all time high at $5.02 at Texaco gas stations in New Providence and even greater numbers of $7 and $8 per gallon on some family islands. Added to this people in the country are having difficulty buying food, and crime has skyrocketed. However Parliamentarians were focusing on none of these facts. The government went to Parliament boasting how well they have attracted and signed over $9 billion in new foreign direct investments. But this gets confusing, the government is boasting of huge cash injections into the country whilst members of the construction industry are complaining of having some 60% of their workers unemployed.
