Nassau, Bahamas — If you traveled east on Soldier Road lately you would understand the reason for writing this article.

BP’s mobile camera is on the ground around the country picked up this scene from the troubled New Providence road project in progress.

This is the Bahamian version of Mogadishu. Our cameras have not traversed this community in a while, and so as we searched for the constituency office of Kenyetta Gibson, we came across this cataclysmic mess.

It is no wonder why there is such rank lawlessness in the country. Look at the roads in this part of town. Hills and valleys open flooded craters, lakes and opaque rivers are mapped in this part of the city.

It was painfully unpleasant to see this kind of damage being inflicted on a citizen vehicle. Clouds of soot and smut plums like gas into the air. Powdery cement, rock, chemicals and concrete fill the air in the community. Children play in around dusty relics parked and stacked all along the roadways as the dust collects to the windows of a once beautiful home. This must be a recipe for a dangerous case of lung ailments. How could a government subject its people to this level of squalor?

Garbage in the area is another growing blight on the residents in the district. Collection has not happened in weeks and members of the community have resorted to burning their garbage.

Power in the area is off regularly, and the flow of fresh water is another necessity denied to residents in this part of town.

We could not believe what we saw. An area climbed into a state like the bottomless pit of hell; a modern day rambunctious cesspool?

Leaders, who have dragged this country into this state of NASTINESS, should never be returned to power. And some we believe should feel the weight and judgment of the people into eternity.

And where is the ‘VICKED’ WUTLESS MEDIA you might ask in all this? Somewhere protecting the Bahamian Gaddafi as he boards a luxury helicopter laughing on the ground and saying: there is no devastation following hurricane Irene. THEY TOO HAVE NO DAMN SHAME!

We join Ivan Johnson and the Punch when they wrote, the FNM GA LOSE!

  3. Yes that part of Soldier Road is bad, and should be fixed, but to blame that on the FNM is ridiculous, that stretch of road has been bad long before they came into power, so please. Amazing thing is there is a cement company right there, they should take some initiative and fix it, as its right in front of their business.

  4. I travelled down this road just yesterday and was greatly appalled at the conditions of the road . since this road construction i have lost a total of 4 new tyres and sufferred damage to my steering arm and bearings. The question is who would still have a car at the completion of this road project.
I saw Our loving Prime Minister driving a golf cart on Eleuthera yesterday (news) i would invite him to drive himself around the area especially soldier road and market street in that same golf cart and wear the same branded smile .

  5. What gets me is that most of the roads in Nassau is like this. The fact that they are fixing the roads is a good thing just do it in an orderly fashion. They just dig up the roads and don’t come back for weeks at a time this is just absolute incompetance can the govt do anything right other than waste money then they come on television and spew a bunch of crap like Bahamians are stupid. At the end of the road works I’m gonna need a new car.

  6. B.P thanks for pointing this out I wont be travelling that route until the road is fix,it’s also important that you point out when soldier road is paved so that I can start travelling that way again. This road was in a mess for about 15 years.

  7. I have to travel this route everyday; I’m always amazed to hear politically minded folks give their dumb excuses to try and down play the present condition of this roadway, because their political party is governing.

In particular, this section of Soldier Road has always been unpleasant to drive on; under both P.L.P & F.N.M Administration.

Here we are today and the situation on Soldier Road has gotten worst.

I wonder if our loving Prime Minister Ingraham & our loving leader of the official opposition Mr. Christie would show the Bahamian people that they’re in this with us by both committing to drive Soldier Road on their way to work & then back home for the next 3 months, maybe then they will have some sort of appreciation what we have to endure daily.

  8. So just so I get this straight. When the FNM tries to repave a street, you throw a hissy fit, and if they don’t repave a street, you throw a hissy fit. Is this accurate?

    • What is a hissy fit? LOL! That’s something the FNM ga be thrown in after the next election eh?

  9. So just so I get this straight. When the FNM tries to repave a street, you throw a hissy fit, and if they don’t repave a street, you throw a hissy fit. Is this accurate?

  10. You should do a report on the Straw Vendors down town. It looks like Port Au Prince down there they way the government have all of the vendors jammed on the side walk. The tourist from the cruise ships and barely walk by. Yesterday I heard an unconfirmed rumor that the Straw Vendors might be like that until March 2012.

    • What I would like to see and so would thousands of us Bahamians, is for the opposition leaders who say they are so appalled at this to join with us working people who have to drive these roads everyday in vehicles with no A/C, no private drivers and sign petitions and form a blockade to stop this madness. Talk is cheap, we are tired of TALK and articles on the web and in the paper, wait until the closure of the Parkgate /Wulf road junction, that will involve 6 major schools, plus parents who have to drop off and pick up and go to work, plus pedestrians, plus jitney traffic. So if you are serious about the mess Mr/Mrs representative, then represent and DO something about it. Don’t wait until election pull up your sleeves and get dirty and sweaty with us who put you there……..
