Man arrested with gun in Montel Heights and police investigate shooting

Nassau, Bahamas — A 24-year-old male of Montel Heights is in police custody after he was found in possession of a handgun and ammunition.

Officers of the K-9 Unit arrested the man around 11:20 pm on Friday in the area of Lincoln Boulevard and Balfour Avenue.  Active police investigations continue.

POLICE CITE 110 DRIVERS & ARREST 6 PEOPLE

In keeping with the Commissioner of Police 2012 policing plan, “Enforcing the Rules of the Road”, officers of the Traffic Division and the Northeastern Division conducted road checks which resulted one hundred and ten (110) drivers being cited for various traffic infractions and six (6) people being arrested.

Officers of the Northeastern Division conducted their road checks between the hours of

5:00 pm and 9:00 pm on Friday and resulted in twenty-six (26) drivers being cited for various traffic infractions.

Traffic Division officers conducted their checks between 7:00 pm on Friday and 2:00 am on Saturday and resulted in eight-four (84) drivers being cited for various traffic infractions and six (6) people arrested for various offences.

Some of the offences for which drivers were cited include:- Unlicensed vehicle, Invalid Inspection Certificate, Driving a vehicle with no front license plate attached, driving without seatbelt affixed and driving with windows of non-transparent view.

POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING INCIDENTS

Police are investigating two (2) separate shootings that have left two (2) males in hospital in stable condition.

The first incident reportedly occurred shortly before 3:00 am on Saturday 13th October, 2012 at Bernard Road and resulted in a 25 year old male being shot to the hand and leg.

Preliminary reports indicate that the victim was at an establishment on Bernard Road when a male wearing dark clothing approached him and subsequently shot.

The second incident reportedly occurred around 4:40 am this morning and resulted in a 32-year-old male of Pinewood Gardens being shot.

Preliminary reports indicate that the suspect was attempting to steal a vehicle in the South Beach area when he was shot. Active police investigations continue.
