Murder #6 for the year on Grand Bahama
Freeport, Bahamas – Bahamas Press is reporting another murder on Grand Bahama. Sources tell us the victim was discovered on the side of the road yesterday. It is being reporting that the male victim’s vehicle was discovered in another location on the island.
We have learnt relatives of the victim are crying foul and want answers. The police on the island are very tight lipped over the matter.
The incident records the 318th murder incident in the country since 2009.
OFFICERS OF THE MOBILE DIVISION MAKE FIREARM ARREST
A 27-year-old male of Pine Barron Road is in police custody after being found in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Initial police reports indicate that shortly after 1:00 am on Friday 20th January, 2012 officers of the Mobile Division were on routine patrol on East Street and Gibbs Corner when they observed the driver of a red Ford Ranger truck fail to stop in obedience to the traffic light. The officers pursued the truck and intercepted it in the area of Sixth Terrace Collins Avenue, where they conducted a search and discovered a shotgun along with a quantity of shotgun shells. Active police investigations continue.
SOUTHEASTERN DIVISION CONDUCTS OPERATION RESTORE
Officers of the Southeastern Division in keeping with the Commissioner of Police policing plan to “Tackle Crime” launched “Operation Restore”. The operation targeted prolific offenders and well as those persons involved in minor crimes. The operation was conducted between the hours of 6:00 pm on Wednesday 18th January, 2012 and 1:30 am on Thursday 19th January, 2012 and resulted in five (5) people, four men and a female, being arrested for various offences. Some of the offences for which they were arrested include Housebreaking, Causing Harm, Robbery and Armed Robbery. Police are encouraging members of the public to adhere to all rules, as police will continue their efforts in making the Bahamas a safer place to live, work, visit and play.

Southern Division Arrests Juvenile for Handgun
A 17 year old juvenile male is in police custody, after he was found in possession of a shotgun and shotgun shells. Initial police reports indicate that shortly before 10:00 pm on Wednesday 18th January, 2012 officers of the Southern Division were on routine patrol on Thompson Lane off East Street, when they observed the teen discharging the weapon. It is reported that the teen on seeing the officers ran. The officers gave chase and subsequently arrested the Fritz Lane resident. Active police investigations continue.
3 Arrested After Robbery. Gun and Cash Found
Three (3) men involved in an early morning armed robbery at a local business establishment are in police custody. Initial police reports indicate that around 6:30 am on Wednesday 18th January, 2012 police received information of an armed robbery at a business establishment located Wulff Road east of Pinedale Road. Police responded and while in route observed a white Honda Saber occupied by two (2) males, fleeing the area. Police pursued the vehicle and intercepted it in the area of Garden Hills, where they arrested two (2) men and confiscated a shotgun along with a radio set. Later in the afternoon police arrested a third (3) male after a short pursuit, that resulted in the suspect’s vehicle crashing on Finlayson Street off Poinciana Drive. Officers conducted a search of the suspect’s home and discovered a handgun, a second radio set, a pair of binoculars, a quantity of suspected marijuana, along with a large amount of cash believed to property of the business establishment. Police are actively seeking two (2) additional males in connection with this incident. Active police investigations continue.
DEU Arrests Four for Handgun and Drugs
In two (2) separate incidents officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) arrested four (4) people. In the first incident, a 54-year-old mother and her 30-year-old son were taken into custody after DEU officers executed a search warrant on their residence at Flamingo Road and discovered a handgun, ammunition and a quantity of suspected marijuana. According to police reports DEU officers arrested the two around 12:45 pm on Wednesday 18th January, 2012. The drugs weigh two and a half (2 1/2) pounds and have an estimated street value of two thousand five hundred ($2,500.00) dollars. A short while later, officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) executed a search warrant on a home at Orchard Close, off Sea Breeze Lane where they discovered a quantity of suspected marijuana. Two (2) men ages, 32 and 30 years, were taken into custody. Active police investigations continue.
