New Fire at Harold Road Landfill

NASSAU, The Bahamas (Mar 02, 2015) Renew Bahamas continues to tackle a new surface fire to the south west of the Harold Road Landfill, which started on Saturday shortly after 8 p.m. At present the company is not certain yet how the fire started, however it is carrying out its internal investigation.

Work crews were immediately mobilized to contain the fire and arrest its spread. The Fire Services Branch of the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) was also contacted and responded immediately to assist in firefighting efforts.

As with previous incidents, immediate action was taken to reinforce the firebreaks around the fire, before moving to address the smoke emanating from the fire using a combination of heavy-duty and specialist equipment and wetted fill.

The company is satisfied that this latest fire is within the teams control and isolated to the rear of the current tipping area.

Residents in the surrounding communities will experience some discomfort from smoke, depending on the wind direction. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay indoors and keep windows closed.

The company will continue to post updates regarding its progress in dealing with this fire.
