Police Supt. Oscar Sands

Nassau, Bahamas — Members of the Royal Bahamas Police Force are in mourning today following the passing of one of their finest officers.

Bahamas Press stood at the bedside in Doctor’s Hospital this morning as we regrettably mourn the death of Superintendent of Police attached to Nassau Street Courthouse, Mr. Oscar Sands.

Sands died in the ICU section of Doctor’s Hospital around 2am this morning.

He had taken an operation earlier and took a turn for the worse over the weekend.

He would be remembered for his stern approach to law enforcement and his passion to wear the uniform.

Senior officers tell us, “Sands was a good policeman. A no-nonsense type of officer. He was always on patrol even when he was off duty. He will be missed.”

Condolences began pouring in early this morning after news swirled across the nation when word of his passing came.

Bahamas Press asks all Bahamians to please keep his entire family, immediate and extended, in your prayers.

Our fallen brother fought awesomely through his time here and truly can Rest In Peace.

Funeral arrangements will be announced…

May he rest in peace.

Sands was head of security at the Nassau Street Courts and is seen here escorting Madam Attorney General and Minister of State for Legal Affairs in the new court facility.
