PAPA is a DAMN LIAR and THE TRUTH IS NOT IN HIM!!!

BP is calling statements by the Prime Minister today in the House the “LIME JUICE LIE” after following our own investigations.

PM INGRAHAM SAID TODAY: “By way of comparison, Mr. Speaker, here are some post-paid and pre-paid rates in the region:

TERRITORY
POST-PAID ARMP
PRE-PAID ARMP

Bahamas .23¢ .30¢
St.Lucia .13¢ .16¢
Cayman Islands .09¢ .17¢
Barbados .09¢ .16¢
Panama .07¢ .03¢
**Jamaica .06¢ .02¢

“As I indicated, CWC plans will reduce the present rates significantly within the next three years, starting with the first year of operations here in The Bahamas.”

Bahamas Press has investigated these rates noted by the PM and here is what LIME published on its official website to its Jamaican subscribers. WHERE IS THE .02 cents per minute?

HUBERT INGRAHAM AS MISLED PARLIAMENT  and his lied boldly to the Bahamian people. We demand an immediate apology from the man with NO COMPASSION for the people of the Bahamas. We also demand Cable and Wireless to correct the PM on his error. Birds of a feather do flock together!

BAHAMIANS CAN,T RUN NOTHING.IT,S NO WONDER DA HATIAN & FORINERS BEING TREAT BETTER. THE HATIANS GET FREEDOM AND LAND & HOUSE. FORINERS GET FIRE SALE DEALS.HOW COULD WE LET A JACKASS WAST FIVE YRS OF I LIVES AND ABOUT TO GET FIVE MORE.???

  3. I’m still checking the MOU but I don’t see anything significant that C&W is offering. In the following list there is nothing that BTC can’t do or haven’t already done.

Also Mr. Shaw didn’t say that C&W will invest any money in infrastructure. Only do some Marketing.

    1. The quality of its customers and the potential for The Bahamas will enable us to leapfrog the rest of the Caribbean in terms of quality and range of communications services.

    2. As in many other jurisdictions recently, there will be a significant increase in the offering of smartphones (Blackberry, Androids, and I-Phones) at reasonable prices, along with much faster mobile data services to enable delivery of music, mobile banking and television to handsets.

    3. There will be a significant increase in the number of places to which the public can go for telephone services and top-ups throughout The Bahamas.

    4. In very short order, new phone buyers across The Bahamas will be able to purchase their phones at a retail location and walk out with a connected phone.

    5. There will be an elimination of different prices by different time of day for cellular services.

    6. There will be an elimination of long distance charges for mobile to mobile connections within The Bahamas.

    7. There will be better roaming and easier connections for all overseas travelers using BTC services.

    8. There will be much faster broadband services offered by BTC, as well as Pay TV.

    9. There will be more connectivity and service options for those in the more remote family islands.

    10. There will be more efficient systems, processes, and training to allow for faster and higher quality customer service.

    11. There will be significant benefits to small, medium and large businesses in terms of more efficient and cheaper communications, as well as a variety of new managed service products and the availability of higher speed data networks.

    12. There will be an easier to understand, consolidated billing of services to all customers.

    13. All of the foregoing will be delivered while achieving an up to 36% reduction in the cost per minute of both prepaid and postpaid services over the next 3 years, before cellular competition begins

    14. In addition, the spend on community projects will double on such activities as sports, afterschool programs, Junkanoo and marching bands.

    15. The Bahamas will become a “Centre of Excellence” within the Caribbean providing services to top corporate customers throughout the region.

    16. There will be expanded opportunities for Bahamians to work elsewhere in the region even while ensuring that 99% of the BTC management and staff are Bahamian citizens.

    17. Cable & Wireless is already recognized globally as a world leader for the provision of communications solutions to the financial services sector and intends to expand that reputation within the financial services sector of The Bahamas.

    18. Finally, BTC will aggressively expand its services and increase its revenue stream from the more than 5 million visitors coming to The Bahamas every year by both providing them with temporary services while in The Bahamas and by increasing the variety and volume of business between their systems and BTC services.

  4. If you want lime’s rate just go to their website based on what I saw in the various countries none of the rates quoted are correct. However does it honestly surprise anyone at this point what this present administration does to move their agenda along.

  5. I am very dissapointed in BP. I think BP owes the PM an apology. I don’t see the lie to which you speak. Looking at the rate sheet you provided, it says: Post paid 2,500 mins. for J$3,650 per month. That is 3,650/2,500 = J$1.46 per min. X .0117($J to US$ exchange rate) = US$0.017 or 2 cents per min. The PM’s math looks quite fine to me.

  6. If mr.Fritz’s reasoning was correct then the question must be put to the prime minister as to WHY C&W NEEDS A THREE YEAR MONOPOLY PERIOD?The prime minister must KNOW THAT NATIONAL INSURANCE IS THE BIGGEST SHARE HOLDER IN CABLE BAHAMAS and while C&W will be able to compete in the cable television market from DAY ONE,Cable Bahamas which is now a 100% Bahamian OWNED company will have to wait 3 years to compete in the cellular phone market. This action will ENDANGER NIB DIVIDENDS AND SHARE VALUE IN CABLE BAHAMAS.Finally, the prime minister is calling OUR PARLIAMENT HIS RUBBER STAMP COMMITTEE,he signed the agreement to sell BTC AND NOW GOES TO PARLIAMENT FOR THE CONSENT.This can only be compared to ALICE IN WONDERLAND!!!

  7. BTC is making a kiling because they are killing the Bahamian people with extremely higher rates on cellular services than all of the other caribbean countries. They are a ‘cash cow’ because they are raping the BAhamian people with these high rates. No other caribbean country chargers these high rates that BTC charges. Check the facts. Further, in many of these Caribbean countries, whenever a land phone calls a cellular phone, the cellular phone is not charge. Only in the Bahamas is the cellular phone charge whe a land phone calls a cellular phone. ANd that is why BTC is making such a huge profit. It is because they are milking the BAhamian people. When will we all wake up and relaize this. They would not be as porfitble as they are if they were’nt killing the Bahamian people. If another phone company was here, competing with BTC, I can assure you that BTC would not make a profit. They you would see the true worth of BTC. They are only profitable because they are milking the Bahamian people and the Bahamian people to not have a choice if they want cellular services. Lets call a Spade, a Spade.

    • Fritz your comment still does not clear the fact that HUBERT INGRAHAM has misled Parliament! Rates for postpaid and prepaid cell service is no way near .06 ¢ and .02¢ per minute. What BTC makes is another argument! THIS IS THE FACT!

      BP

    • @Fritz Gerald, you are a clown, the subject matter is the lie by the PM, but you being an apologist for the FNM, you don’t want to deal with that, everything that happens with BTC, price, equipment etc., is the government’s call, the price is that high, because the government allows it, C&W will have a three year monopoly, (actually it’s a five year monopoly), truth be told, stop selling out your country for cheaper phone rates, that are not actually true, if the government was serious, we would have 2 cent out going phone calls, and free incoming calls, but just watch the money and you’ll see why they did what they did, stay tune, and bend over!, they coming.

  8. Bahamaspress, thank you for writing this because I just was preparing a document to show you the LIE Ingraham made. And to all those who were too lazy to do your own conversions, BP made it simple enough for you or you can simply GOOGLE a CURRENCY CONVERSION CALCULATOR. Stop letting Ingraham sell you out. STOP LETTING THESE POLITICIANS FEED YOU INCORRECT INFORMATION PERIOD! Research BAHAMAS and call these politicians BLUFF! And I meant on BOTH SIDES.

  9. The PM rate comparison is an outright lie.

Did The Jr. Minister teach him mathematics & economics.

Even if you want to believe him (fanatics), let’s break it down.

question: How in a country where persons earn $8,400 (Jamaica) spending .12 cent per minute for a call equal a person making $28,600 (Bahamas) .30 cent per minute.

That is the same as the rate in the Bahamas being .41 cent.

No wonder our economy failing. Our finance ministers are failures.

These are not my figures they are world facts.

    see http://www.cia.gov

  10. Now Digicel which has the cheapest rates in Jamaican offers calling prepaid rates at $10JD per minute. That would work out to be .12¢USD per minute. LIME’s PREPAID IS FAR MORE, and is no way near the PM’s numbers.

AGAIN THE PRIME MINISTER HAS LIED TO PARLIAMENT and the Bahamian people and we demand LIME to correct the PM’s statement and give the true numbers it charges Jamaicans on post and prepaid calls.

We also hope some member of the press would see LIME’s true numbers and call them out on this.

    WE SHALL WAIT AND SEE!

    BP

  11. THE PM said prepaid is 2 cents per minute and post paid is 6 cents per minute. IT IS NOT TRUE! even if you convert the currency and do the math. IT IS NOT TRUE PLAIN AND SIMPLE!

Land line services in Jamaica are $.25USD cents per minute. That is why Jamaicans have no phone in their home [FEW] and others with cell phones are always out of credit.

The Bahamas Basic plan in $40 UNLIMITED INTERNET and Texting and $19 for 100 minutes. If you do your math that is .19cents per minute in the Bahamas.

Now for yinner who cannot add multiply divide and subtract we sorry for ya.

    DO ya own math:

    Jamaican Dollar/U.S. Dollar $85.1789Jam = $0.0117US
Or for every $1 Bahamian Dollar it is $85.1789 Jam.

Now bear in mind the average Jamaican does not earn $15,000 per year like a Bahamian.

    BP

  12. BP you guys are really going out on a limb on this one. Anything to try turn the nation against the FNM huh? This is a really really minor detail…I guess since the PLP is not in power with all their scandals, you guys are lacking good solid information to report. Now you guys are “majoring in the minors”.

    • Well if you read BP and all of the SCANDALS AND CORRUPTION we have been reporting in the last few months you would note Earl Deveaux, Julian Francis, the crew heading National Insurance make the entire PLP look like lil children trying to reach the cookie jar! The Scandals are rank to say the lest and today we call for all to be fired!

      BP

  13. The Prime Minister has intentionally MISLEAD the Parliament and THE BAHAMAIN people by converting various Caribbean currencies into Bahamain currency. We all know that C&W WILL NOT ALLOW BAHAMIANS TO PAY OUR PHONE BILLS IN JAMAICAN CURRENCY.Additionally the prime minister has admitted that C&W came to the table SEVEN MONTHS after the bidding process was CLOSED.

    • Why do you continue to talk foolishness. The Prime Minister must quote the figures in Bahamian dollars as the is our national currency. What would be the purpose of using bajian or Eastern Caribbean dollars (which are both 2 to 1 to the US dollar) or Jamacian dollars which is lower than them. It is simply propoganda to scare the ignorant.

  14. come on BP…..stop lying to us Bahamian people…you are misleading….the rates you have posted is in Jamaican currency….they really do have low rates and the roaming rates are even low….please report the truth.

  15. I like you guys but a bit better journalism is needed. a) You never say the rate…so what is the rate BP? You just show a pic with all sorts of plans.

    b) Fine say we look ourselves..keep in mind that J$ are being quoted so if you are looking for the exact number you wont find it.
