Raleigh Butler, son of first Bahamian Governor General, dies after long illness

Nassau, Bahamas –– Breaking news coming out of the Pond Community tonight confirms that the son of the country’s first Bahamian Governor General, Raleigh Butler has died.

Mr. Butler was the operator of Butler’s Funeral Home who had battled a long illness.

He is the father of current FNM Deputy Leader Loretta Butler Turner and former PLP treasurer Craig Butler.

Funeral services will be announced shortly.

Bahamas Press expresses our sympathy to his wife, children and the entire Butler clan.

A 23-year-old man charged with raping his mother!

Bahamas Press is reporting the arraignment of a 23-year-old man was today.  He was charged with raping his 52-year-old mother.

According to court documents, it’s alleged that the rape took place on August 6th in New Providence.

Acting Chief Magistrate Joyann Jerguson-Pratt told him that he was not required to enter a plea.

He was also denied bail and remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison.

Attorney Glendon Rolle who appeared for the accused asked the court for an evaluation of his mental state at the Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre.

Magistrate Ferguson-Pratt denied the request, ordering instead that a medical doctor at the prison examine him and determine if further psychological evaluation is needed.

She then told the accused that a voluntary bill of indictment will be served against him at his next appearance on November 8th.

Man drowns at beach – discovery by tourist…

Another dead body was discovered submerged in waters opposite the Junkanoo Beach Hotel late this afternoon.

A tourist discovered the 40-something-year-old male in the area. The area is a hot spot where bodies are found. Police are investigating…
