FREEPORT, Grand Bahama – The 2nd Annual Grand Bahama Cycling Club ‘Tour De Grand Bahama’ was held on Saturday and Sunday in a three-stage event of Individual Time Trial, Criterion Road Race, and 75-Mile Road Race. The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism was the event’s major sponsor.
The primary purpose of the race is to raise funds for Operation Christmas Child, which provides shoebox gifts to children all over The Bahamas. The organization focuses on assisting children with not just toys, but school supplies as well.
The race began in McLean’s Town in East Grand Bahama and ended in West End where a special awards ceremony took place.
There were 25 participants in this year’s competition, mainly from the GB Cyclists Club, the New Providence Cyclist Club, along with two visitors from the United States – Tara Smith of Orlando, and Royal Foley of Tampa — who won overall in female and male categories.
