A BP SUNDAY SPECIAL >>>>The man who is always attacking the Bahamian worker in the press should come clean…

Mr. Dionisio D’Aguilar fails to practise Freedom of Information!

Mr. D’Aguilar and others should first practise sharing information before his group calls on the government to do so….Where is the report on Tax Reform done by the Coalition experts? The Bahamas Government has made public all its reports on VAT!

Nassau, Bahamas — Mr. Dionisio D’Aguilar, one member of this new group Coalition for Responsible Taxation that has become the voice against the implementation of VAT, has been speaking regularly to the Rotary Club of Nassau on the issue.

In August Mr. D’Aguilar told his audience, “We are demanding accountability.” This certainly sounds familiar. In his meeting with the Rotarians just last week, Mr. D’Aguilar repeated his points, and ended with his famous line that “we need a Freedom of Information Act” [FOI] in the Bahamas.

This same call for an FOI is now being echoed by Andre Rollins. The Save the Bays group. The Bimini Blue Coalition. The Coalition for Responsible Taxation. The FNM and everyone else opposed to the Christie-led PLP Government. Sounds interesting, hey?

Mr. D’Aguilar should first practise sharing information before his group calls on the government to do so. We ask him now: Where is the report on Tax Reform done by the Coalition experts? The Bahamas Government has already made public all its reports on VAT on the Government’s Website!

Bahamas Press has visited that website Coalition for Responsible Taxation now backed by the Employers Association and we are puzzled by the fact that those who call for an FOI Act are themselves deficient,  short and wanting in sharing their own information with the public.

The Employers Association [the group behind the Coalition for Responsible Taxation] provides not a clue as to who their members or benefactors are. And following their own study on Tax Reform, which by now was to be shared with the Christie Government, there is no information shared by them on what were the details of its report done to make the Bahamas better and restore us to right and proper fiscal health. This is amazing.

What Mr. D’Aguilar and his Coalition need to do first is come clean with the Bahamian people and tell us who are the members of the Coalition and what were the details of their report on moving the Bahamas forward. Be practitioners like the Christie Government and post your reports online for all Bahamians to see.

It’s Unbelievable!

Ya see it is one thing to criticize and say some things, but it is also important to practise what ya preach. Always remember – Bahamians are watching and, if they are like Bahamas Press, they are taking notes.

We report yinner decide!
