Nassau, Bahamas — When voters enter the polls Monday morning, an historic vote will take place. Bahamians around the country will support the government plans to regulate and tax the gaming business and the public shall also give the nod to establish a national lottery.
When regulated and taxed, the “Numbers Business” as we know it will save the scores of jobs that now exist in the business. It will offer increased government revenue. It will remove the discrimination now carried out against workers who cannot get mortgages and loans. And it will bring equality to workers over the hill in line with their counterparts in Casinos on Paradise Island and Cable Beach.
The “Yes” mandate given to the government by the people will move the Bahamas FORWARD to transparency and accountability in the eyes of our world partners.
